elped by its geographic structure and tides, the north coast has a rich living environment for marine creatures. The coast is also of high economic value for local citizens who can catch various creatures in the intertidal zone.

Qiangu
Before the 50"s, "qiangu", or net fishing, is the most important economic activity for Laomei residents. During spring and summer, when villagers found out that fishes were jumping over the sea surface, they would blow the conch shell to notice others that it is time for qiangu. Informed villagers would then gather at the beach to help pull the fishing net to shore and split the catch. However, since the introduction of automatic fishing machines, qiangu has been replaced and is now only performed for amusement purpose.
