The name Shanxi is derived from two names: the character Shan from Laobengshan, or Laobeng Mountain, and the character Xi from Daxiqian.
●Daxiqian
Daxiqian
Qian is a unique Chinese character in Taiwan, which means "the side of a river, a road, or a certain landform". Daxiqian is therefore named for being on the side of Laomei River.

●Jianshanhu
Because the palce is located at the basin under Jianzi Mountain, it is called Jianshanhu.

●Tudigongling
Eighteen Lords
This mountain ridge is named for having a Tudigong Temple, or land deity temple. Beyond this ridge is Alibangkeng.

●Jiuqionglin
The place is named for its landform and local plants. Due to the large number of Jiuqiong trees in the region, the place is named Jiuqionglin, or "Jiuqiong tree forest". During the end of WWII, a Japanese jet fighter chased by Allied aircrafts crashed here.

●Laobeng Mountain
Because of the frequent occurrence of mountain landslides, the mountain is named Laobeng Mountain, or "old, collapsing mountain".

●Bengshankou
Bengshankou
Bengshankou is the entrance to Laobeng Mountain. Danjin Highway crosses this place and a small village was formed here.
