The name Caoli is derived from names of two places: the character Cao from Caopuwei and the character Li from Alilao.
●Alilao
The name, Alilao, is derived from transliteration of Plains tribes" indigenous languages. During Qing Dynasty, Lin"s and Ne"s families came to cultivate this land.

●Wuzhualun
Cultivated by immigrant Chiu during mid-Qing Dynasty, the area has five mountain ridges, which form into the shape of an open hand. The place is therefore named Wuzhualun, or "five claws mountain".

●Zhuzihu
Instead of denoting a real lake, the character Hu in Zhuzihu actually describes the basin landscape. Surrounded by bamboos, the place is called Zhuzihu, or "Bamboo Lake".
